It addresses the theoretical gap in the urban design discipline, within the process itself, besides its relationship with urban planning. The paper aims to analyze the criticism directed towards the theoretical dreams of the urban design process from a practical perspective. While urban design emerged to bridge the gap between urban planning and architecture, such gap could possibly still exist, especially on theoretical level. Likewise, the relationship between urban planning and urban design is often misread and addressed as vague in nature. It has been common that urban design projects turn out different in implementation from what was intended. Over the last 50 years, urban design process has been critiqued in terms of its definitions, principles stakeholders, process and relationship with other disciplines.
